Although the history of Encinitas is steeped in the Flower Growing Industry, it has become much more diverse and truly a haven for the family-oriented upwardly mobile. At present time, there are still a large number of flower producing greenhouses throughout the area. Agriculture remains a strong part of the economic base for the city. But this town is also a bedroom community for Sorrento Valley (approximately 10 minutes south down Interstate 5), which is a technology center. Sorrento Valley is commonly referred to as "Little Silicon Valley."

It is also a surf/beach culture. There are some of the most breath-taking vistas of the Pacific Ocean along the Encinitas bluffs that you'll find anywhere. There is a beach/surfbreak known as "Swamis" that offers a spectacular view of waves breaking over the reef.

Although its history is Agricultural, over the past several years there has been a large, planned, housing development known as La Costa Valley, built just east of the "Encinitas Town Center" which offers Families a wide variety of home styles and sizes to choose from.
